How to Properly Apply Your Facial Oil?

Facial oils are packed with benefits. Rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids, they help limit water loss, prevent dehydration, and strengthen the skin's barrier function. Due to their affinity with the skin, they also facilitate the diffusion of active ingredients by penetrating the skin layers. All skin types can benefit from them, even oily skin, where they can provide a regulating function.

Should You Apply Facial Oil Before or After Moisturizer?

It depends on the type of oil you're using. Heavy and light oils have different chemical structures and molecular weights.

  • Heavy oils are more saturated and mainly moisturize through "occlusion," forming a protective film on the skin to prevent moisture from evaporating. They can easily penetrate moisturizers, so it's recommended to apply them as the last step in your routine, after moisturizer, to seal in ingredients and moisture, adding an extra layer of hydration and nutrition.
  • Light oils are more unsaturated (rich in linoleic acid) and work mainly from within—helping rebuild lipid layers and quickly penetrating the skin. They are perfect for application before moisturizer, similar to a serum.
  • Another way to use facial oils is by mixing a few drops with your moisturizer.

For application, it's recommended to use gentle pressing movements, tapping lightly on your face with your fingers to stimulate fibroblasts—the main cells in connective tissue that produce collagen and elastin—and allow the products to penetrate deeply.
